Chronic Illness & Medical Family Therapy

I provide counseling specifically addressing the array of concerns that affect individuals, couples and families that are dealing with a chronic or terminal illness. You may find yourself struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, shame, and conflict with loved ones or your healthcare provider. People with medical conditions often find their mental health is overlooked by their healthcare providers, while I see it as an integral part of your overall care. As someone who has lived with a chronic illness for nearly 30 years, I have a deep understanding of the impact it has on mental health and our sense of self.

I also work with caregivers, spouses, and other family members.

Health issues can include:

  • Autoimmune (type 1 diabetes, Crohn’s, IBS, multiple sclerosis)

  • Alzheimer’s

  • Cancer

  • Rare diseases

  • Medical trauma (surgery, injury)

  • Palliative / Hospice

  • Prenatal or postpartum health issues (neonatal ICU)

I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, CBT, and narrative therapy to support individuals and families.

Counseling is available only to residents of Minnesota via telehealth.
